Mid of 2015, the Private Stock Team grabbed Paul Reed Smith and asked him if he wanted to try something new. They showed him an app called Periscope. Using the app, they were able to live stream a broadcast of Paul inside our wood vault - a special section of PRS shop where they keep their finest Private Stock grade woods. During that broadcast, Paul selected the woods for what he has now been affectionatly dubbed “The Periscope Guitar.” Check out the broadcast and the completed guitar! While Paul is heavily involved in pretty much every aspect of PRS business - it’s not often you find him choosing woods and writing up specs for an entire guitar (unless he’s building it for himself)! On this day however, Paul did it! Check out the video. In the video, Paul chose a quilted maple top, quilted mahogany back, curly maple neck, african blackwood fingerboard, and african blackwood headstock veneer. The wood combination is both strikingly beautiful and highly resonant - great for musical instrument building. |
